Fly into the future.

Well!

Chicago has finally come and gone. Got back to the thriving metropolitan that is Emporia.
So here is a break down of what happened in Chicago, for those who give a rats ass.

Sunday Night- Landed. Got sushi with Brianne, then walked around a bit. Found Urban Outfitters, American Apparel, and H&M all right by each other.. I knew this would be dangerous on my budget. Went back to the hotel, went up to the pool which was heated and there was classical music playing. I felt so sophisticated, plus the pool had floor to ceiling windows surrounding it so the view was absolutely beautiful!

Monday- Met up with two of the funniest people I know, Stephen and Alex and had a fun lunch. Did some shopping. Had an interview with a school. I wasn't too impressed. I performed my monologues and he had me recite one of them back as Antonio Bandares. I'm not sure why. He didn't ask me if I had any questions about his program, so I left still knowing VERY little about what his program is all about. Plus the guy kind of gave me the heebie jeebies. That night went to see Second City perform with Brianne. Had a GREAT time. It was refreshing to see a comedy show with some improv sprinkled in and to see performers who were NOT in any way selfish with their approach. They set each other up for laughs and not one of them seemed to be hamming. It was so nice to see. Afterward met up with a pal, Stephen, at a bar and had some drinks and had a refreshing conversation. It's nice to talk to people who have gone through similar situations and to see that they have made it out alive and are completely healthy. All throuhout high school I have been told by numerous people, "you remind me so much of Stephen!" and for the first time I guess I understood what they were talking about.

Tuesday- Big audition time. Went to the hotel at 8:30am for a meeting, then straight into auditions. I was probably somewhere around the 15th to 20th person to audition. It was pretty great. I left feeling very satisfied with myself knowing I did my best. It was so nice to get it out of the way. That moment is why I came to Chicago. Then went shopping some more, and went back to the hotel later that day to see if I was passed on to the final round. The round that ALL the grad school programs would be at to see my work. Fortunately I was passed on! That night I celebrated by buying some chocolate cake and some milk and headed to my favorite spot of the hotel, the pool, to enjoy it. I just sat at one of the tables near the floor to ceiling windows and enjoyed the view that is Chicago.

Wednesday- Geared up early in the morning for round two of auditions! Did my pieces again, to what I thoguht was the best of my ability. Went and met up with Penn State, had a very nice chat with them, we hit it off very well (except I have the feeling he hits it off well with most anybody!) Then off to lunch with a friend. After lunch made it back to the hotel to find out if any schools were interested in me for their program. I got called back to two, Indiana University and University of Connecticut. Both great programs! Immediately after that I met up with both of them. Indiana sounded a lot nicer then I imagined. Connecticut and I hit it off very swimmingly. We worked my monologues then he asked me questions, he seemed very intrigued or pleased with the answers I gave them. I candidly was able to make them laugh a couple times which is good because the monologue I chose is serious so they were able to see my personality but also my ass hole of a monologue. That night worked on some homework. Fell asleep REALLY early.

Thursday- Said goodbye to my beautiful room and the wonderful city that is Chicago and headed towards the subway for the flight.

I gotta say! I was pretty damn proud of myself for traveling by myself! Brianne navigated us a couple times but for the most part I was pretty independent. I felt like a big boy!

And now, I just wait to see if any programs extend an offer for me to join their program in August. If they don't, time to work on Plan B... which I'm not sure what it is yet....

  2. I'm glad you had such a great experience at U/RTAs, Dylan! I know you'll get what's best for you, which hopefully is what you want most (that's not meant to sound cryptic, I just believe in things working out the way they're supposed to).
