Whoa whoa whoa!

So I am extremely excited for this semester. I feel like I have the potential to really go out with a *bang*

So the shows are all cast.
The audition process from the viewpoint of a director was completely exhilarating!
I don't know how to word this, but all of those things that directors tell you NOT to do in a prepared audition, well it was nice to see why they tell you not to do those things. Or when they emphasize why to do something, it was nice to see what they mean.

I'm very happy with my cast. We meet for the first time tonight.
We have three weeks of rehearsals then the show is up, and 3 of those rehearsals, I will be gone.
So we are crunched for time. But sometimes, limitations can make someone stronger.

Aside from directing, I got cast as Oberon in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" by William Shakespeare.
I have NEVER done a Shakespeare, and last night at the callback was really the first time I have ever really said the words out loud in a scene. Before it's just monologues and whatnot, and I surprised myself at how fast I picked up key thoughts and phrases. Midsummer isn't necessarily difficult in comparison to other Shakespeare shows, but for this being my first ever Shakespeare, I'm extremely grateful. I was hoping for a tiny tiny role, and am very excited to receive this one! I'm very much intimidated! However, we spend the first week or two sitting down at a table discussing things. A lot of book work, which I'm ecstatic for! I've never done that before.

So I'm just over the moon for this semester. A lot of creativity and I just can't even describe.

So excited! I'm sure I will be absolutely stressed!

Bring It!

  1. How exciting for you! What are you directing again? Who's in your cast?

Oberon....wow! Who's playing the lover boys then if you aren't? Although I'm sure by now you're the only one there with the stage presence to play such a powerful role. Good for you.

Enjoy your time at Emporia, theater and theater companies aren't the same everywhere, and I've discovered that the atmosphere at ESU is more special than I could have imagined.
